Avice C. Smith, age 86, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Saginaw St. Mary's of Michigan, following a lingering illness. The former Avice C. Walls was born December 25, 1925 on the family farm in Dayton Township, the daughter of the late George E. and Emma (Bearss) Walls. Avice was united in marriage with Dale C. Smith on March 28, 1946 in Caro. She was employed in housekeeping at the Caro Regional Center for over 27 years, retiring in 1984. Avice was a member of the Caro First Church of Christ, Scientist. Avice enjoyed playing cards with her friends, sewing, baking, writing notes, and working with her flowers. She doted on her family and devoted much of her time making them happy.
Avice is survived by her loving husband of over sixty-six years, Dale C. Smith of Caro; two daughters, Alice Wortman of Waterford, Barbara and her husband, Phillip Parrott of Deckerville; one granddaughter and her husband, Kelly & Brian Milosevic of Shelby Township; one sister-in-law, Tsuyuko Walls of Marysville, Washington, one brother-in-law, Francis Chantiny of Bothell, Washington and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Hugh Charles Smith who died on March 26, 1947; one son-in-law, Donald Wortman; three brothers, Rex, Phillip and George Walls, Jr. and one sister, Phyllis Chantiny.
In honoring Avice's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro. Burial will follow at a later date at North Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Caro Area District Library. .
